Question P1sc big enough for a 408?

Comtemplating a bigger motor, either a 6 liter or a 408. Will my p1sc make any boost at all. I have heard that it is not big enough, but I'm thinking with less boost it will last longer. I drive it hard. Alot.

Since I'm 2wd, I'm worried about traction, which is one of the reasons I went with the procharger to begin with. Have 20's (break clearence) so there really aren't any sticky tires available. I'm at 400hp & tq now at the wheels and after adding a 10.5" PI triple disc and a re-tune my bottom end is a little sluggish, but it pulls hard on top.

Trying to figure out the most economical route. Possibly ditch the blower and just build a 408 with a middle of the road cam.

Want 450-500 hp & tq. Any thoughts? Thanks

To get 450rwhp out of a 408 it will cost you over 5K with you doing the work I have 6K in just parts tied up in my 418 and Im close to 450 at the wheels. I would build a 6L with forged pistons a nice cam and heads and keep the blower if I were you.

It will power it, and probably be able to make all the boost you would want. But, it would be out of its effeciency range most likely, and belt slip would become a problem because of the small pulley you would need to make the boost. It all depends on the motor also. A stock 6.0 would be no problem for a P1, but start heads/cam, etc and you are running out.

I will watch this one. I have an LQ9 with cam, and I have a P1SC going in with an upgraded Griffin intercooler, Walbro pump & 42lb injectors. I will be using a 10lb pulley. Sorry to ride your coat tails here.

I have a 4" pulley now which gives me 8-10 lbs. How many lbs would that be on a six liter and then a 408 with fairly good heads and the same exhaust. I have a 3" mandrel single exhaust with a big magnaflow behind the dynatechs and cats.

If you're seeing 8-10lbs now with the 5.3 I'd bet it would drop roughly 2lbs on a 6.0L(stock). Then I'd bet it would drop another 2-3 with a built 408.

That exhaust is probably a restriction right now on your 5.3L with the blower but, I bet it sounds good. If you step up to a 6L or 408 I'd definately look into running a true 3" dual setup.

The P1SC SHOULD be able to feed the 408 with 8-10lbs of boost according to it's max airflow ratings BUT, the belt slip problems of the procharger setup would probably start creeping in sooner than that. The belt seems to start slipping bad around 500rwhp on everyones setup that has tried to push it.

That was along the same lines that I was thinking. The D1 should help with the belt slip since you can run a larger pulley and get more belt contact. A 4.0 inch pulley on my D1 makes over 12 psi, more with the procharger intercooler (probably from the temp drop from the better intercooler). The P1 would probably need a pulley in the 3" range to high 2" range, the D1 should be in the mid 3" range for the boost he needs. With a Reichard pulley, good belt, and maybe some larger idlers he should be fine with belt grip.

Don't really want 8-10 lbs on the 408, thinking along the lines of 4-5#, due to the use/abuse I put it through. Still a little worried after tearing up two trannys. Chuck at FLT seems to think my 4l65 should be good for 600hp or more at the crank. Mine has all the tricks but does not have the billet output shaft like the one that is in Turboberzerker's. His tranny is probably putting up with 7-750hp at the crank. Thinking that my trans should live at 500/500 to the tires at my 5500lbs.

Went the Reichard route and it did not work out for me. I have a 4" pulley for sale if anyone wants it as well as a Katech manual tensioner.

Am I wrong in thinking that there should be less possible belt slip at lower boost or will the p1 have the same possible slip on the 5.3 at 8-10# as it would on a 408 at 4-6#?

The low boost level will help with the belt slip.

Also, PM me a price on that 4.0 pulley.
