The problem with running a 160deg stat is the 28" radiator cannot keep the temp around 160 it doesn't have the efficiency for the heat transfer.

Actually Scream history and experience prove me right!! They haven't made a car or truck to run a 160 deg stat since the 60s everything runs 185 and up. Also even having a bigger radiator wouldn't help when your boosting. The water has to have time to cool off in the radiator and a boosted motor will never run 160 deg.

And if your paying more then $10-$12 for a stat then call the police cuz you been robbed!!

For yrs now ive ran nothing more then a restrictor in my cooling system and my motors run 150-170 all day long. never have had overheating issues ever until I lifted a head

the whole higher stats for newer vehicles is cause for emissions has nothing to do with performance, race cars use restrictors.......

heres what is used on a LS1 and they are more then 10$

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you can't buy or find a 160 deg stat some of the trucks with big radiators will run at those lower temps and run just fine too!! But they won't run that low of a temp when boosted. I think my 03 Tahoe calls for a 187 deg stat and it has a huge 3 core radiator in it. The higher the stat the longer the water sits in the motor and the longer the radiator has to cool it off. Really not that complicated.

im referring to a boosted motor, the only time that motor should ever see a high temp is when you lifted or cracked a sleeve or a head

you want a boosted motor as cold as possible so when the cylinder temps rise from the heat your motor can keep it cool. by running a motor near 200* and then tossing boost at it, you risk more of a chance of scoring the cylinder walls with piston material....

Mine runs a 160 stat and runs those temps boosted..... My Electric fans are also setup for the cooler t'stat also and since my truck is a factory 6L it has the 34" rad.

There are allot of people running 160 stats on this site with no issues what so ever.

That's what is used in my Tahoe oh and I'm sorry it's $13 lol

And Scream most race cars aren't drivin on the street. I have friends that just have small water tanks no radiator or fans and they go race all the time without heat issue's. but when u have an everyday driver that's boosted it heats up from sitting in stop n go traffic.

My truck ran for over two years with a 160 t stat and never overheated. Guess what? It was boosted, it was in stop and go traffic, and it was hot lapped many times. Doing all this... Boosted... With a 160 t stat. The reason stock stats are so high is due to emissions, the motor likes being much cooler... Especially boosted. Stop spreading false information please. Thanks

Like I said some of these trucks with the huge radiators can run at them lower temps. But it didn't work in my S-10 with a 4 core aluminum radiator and 2 fans running full time. As quick as I installed a 195 deg stat she would get up to 200 on the gauge and drop to about 180 when the stat opened. would run like that driving or sitting in traffic.
