I did mine with the pan on. Just put a lot of grease on the tap and clean it/reapply when it gets dirty. I put mine in the front of the pan on the right side.

Default Pan on

Did mine with pan on packed full of grease drill very slow under starter . I have put a lot belts on stock 4.8 /5.3/6.0 that broke and went down wrapping on sh.....
