I used the Whipple tune which was provided with the kit (SuperChips handheld) and decided to see what more we could get out of it. The second tune was done with my own copy of HPTuners and with an experienced tuner however I prefer to keep his name off the forums as it was a side project and I prefer not to create any issues for him.

The custom tune was MUCH better feeling and the pinging I noticed on the track is still an unknown problem as it doesn't do it on the street and we haven't had a chance to look into it yet. Possibly around Christmas I'll have a chance to sort some of it out, however, I'll also likely go ahead and move to 8PSI and a 2 bar tune etc.

If just getting the kit, the tune that is included works well, but as one would assume there is much more left in it if you go with a custom tune.

Why are you so specific about 8 psi? You set 8 psi as a goal even before you knew how much boost you have now.

Just my ballpark for what I wanted to stop at.

The truck makes 6 PSI now as it sits.

No idea honestly. They sell the same kit for the 5.3 motors and up to the 6.2 motors and claim between 8-10 PSI with the supplied kit.

How much of it is due to the larger motor, l92 heads, headers, etc. I cannot say, but after hooking a gauge up to the truck I was getting right at 6 PSI wih the stock 3.625" pulley. After speaking with Whipple they suggested a 3.375" pulley to get me in the area I was asking for.

3.375 upper pulley 7.5 lower gets me 12#'s through the intercooler. With 8.8to1,4.8l,small custom cam, hand ported 241's,FL headers w/cats and 4" catback.Jus for refrence.TB will play a role in desired boost if its too small anything under 90mm.

You would expect they would size the pulley to each engine size not one size fits all.

Very nice setup, i've been waiting to see someone with the new hipple kit...3rd gear is over way to quick dude, have your tuner change that upshift point closer to 6k rpm.
