Newbie Turbo Tuning
Ok so I have a few FI tuning questions... Bear with me.
First off, how do you tune for WOT without going WOT? I know what tables to use, but whats the process? Provide wayy too much fuel then back off from there?
Is it OK to have a cruising AFR (no boost) around 14.7? Or does it need to be richer? My idle is also 14.7-15.1.
PE mode should enable as soon as I hear the turbo spool up, correct?
Also do you rely on PE to add all your fuel or can you also modify the Stoich AFR table to tell the PCM to target a numberically lower AFR as the throttle increases?
Im running a 5.3 with 212/218 hilift on a 115LSA with the 60-1 turbo from an STS kit. Yes, its a small turbo, but I have 3.23s and will be upgrading to a 4l80e in the future. Top end power is really not my goal.
Tuning is being done with hptuners and I have a MAF.

Here in AZ my truck starts building boost at 95kpa. Your threshold or PE enable for building boost would depend how close or faraway you are from sea level. I would start with a stock boost table and would build 1lb or 2lb to see where a/f is lean than richen up the table or was rich than lean or. Your going to tune your boost just like you when Ve the rest of the table.

First off, how do you tune for WOT without going WOT? I know what tables to use, but whats the process? Provide wayy too much fuel then back off from there? start rich with NO timing, less than ten degrees IMO the lean it out to 11.5ish. Then put your timing back up to what you want
Is it OK to have a cruising AFR (no boost) around 14.7? Or does it need to be richer? My idle is also 14.7-15.1. thats perfect IMO

Also do you rely on PE to add all your fuel or can you also modify the Stoich AFR table to tell the PCM to target a numberically lower AFR as the throttle increases? a NA motor is at 12.5ish AFR at 100 kpa, depending on elevation. Use that as a reference point. more kpa, equals richer. From ideal up should be a bit leaner.

Or at least that my opinion.

Excellent information guys.
Unless I'm overlooking it, I can't find a table of EQ ratio vs MAP. Only vs RPM. Thats the one ya'll are using right? Just compare MAP value to RPM and then tune based on that?
I also tried changing the Stoich AFR table in HPTuners and it doesnt seem to do anything.
