Need Help: Oil coming out of tailpipe!!!

Default Need Help: Oil coming out of tailpipe!!!

So I managed to get to work this morning, but about 1/2 mile away it starts billowing smoke out of the tailpipe. Needless to say I was pissed, but oil pressure was fine, and all my gauges checked out.

When I get into the parking lot here at work I was greated with the Exxon Valdez leaking out of my tailpipe. I shut it off immeadiatley. It seems that the rear seal blew out of my turbo, but how the hell does that happen. There is now a puddle on the ground of oil underneath the tailpipe. It's not leaking anywhere on the oil supply side or the return side.

If it is the seal, how do I fix it? Where do I get one? I REALLY don't want to have to send this thing in and run without a turbo. I'll have to retune it and it'll drive like ***.

What if the pump failed? I bet that's what happened. Does anyone know how to see if the pump is working, short of taking it off the truck? My alarm didn't go off, but who knows if that damned thing works. I've never heard it before, even in high boost.

... maybe have someone start the truck while you have the oil fill cap off (pointed to the fill neck of course) to see if you get oil return from the pump?

Yep, definitely check the pump. I had one fail on a twin turbo under car kit and it pours out the pipe. The wiring harness got pinched after moving a bit and shorted the pump out.

I doubt there is anything wrong with your turbo.
Check power to the pump; fuse and where you tapped into the harness. If the fuse is blown, it could just be that, but more that likely it has grounded on something.
Also try jumping your pressure switch. It will allow the pump to run on high. You could have a bad resistor.
Also check to see if there is anywhere on the harness that is melted.
If thats okay, probe the yellow wire in the front harness; turn the key on and see if you have power. If you do, then probe the yellow wire in the rear harness and see if you have power. If you do, then make sure you have power at the pump. If so, then the pump is bad.

Just checked the pump. I took the cap off where the oil returns to the engine and fired it up. Nothing, zip, nada. No oil coming out. I guess I have a fried pump and I need to get home (10 mi). I wonder if I could bypass the pump with a barbed coupling to get me home. Do you guys think the engine's oil pump would push the oil through the turbo back to the return cap on the valve cover? I'm thinking not. Looks like STS is going to have send out a new pump along with paying for a tow home.

I'm with Billy, probably just popped the fuse, or burnt out the low speed resister. Try jumpering past the resister or jumpering the switch on the PCV so the pump is in high speed all the time. I really doubt you fried the pump.

If the return was plugged and forced the oil through the turbo, more than likely the seals in the turbo is damaged.

I doubt there will be any damage to the seals, all the seals are is just small cast piston rings type seals. That why turbos depend on gravity drain so much because the seals wont seal any kind of pressure. Pretty hard to actually damage them. I popped the fuse on my oil pump once or twice when it was really cold here, before I put the switch on to run the pump it high, when its cold out side. The damn pump don't like to pump oil at -20* on low speed .

I have only had one pump go bad since I started selling STS over 2 years ago. I doubt there is anything wrong with the pump.
Check your power!!!!
Also, no, it will not push the oil back to the engine. Thats whats happening now. The pump is not working and the oil is spilling into both sides of the turbo.
Like I said, grab a cell and call and I will walk you through some things if you would like.
