Default need help / advice lq4 +boost

Hey all

I'll start off by telling you last night I spent a few hours on here and could not really fine answers so i'm just posting

my truck 2004 rado, 01 lq4/4L80E swap turbo (not installed ) 73mm i be leave my gold for this truck is to get it in the high 11's low 12's with just boost its a RCSB

currently the heads (317's) either need valve seals or valve guides found a pair local low miles for under $200 thinking about grabbing them but dont know if i should just work mine over?

boosted will be around 10psi? since the heads are most likely coming off to reach my gold (12.xx pass) should I do a cam, port the heads, swap intakes and so on or will the turbo & meth kit be enough on a stock engine?

what head gasket should be used and is there any thing that should be done to the engine before its boosted?

If the heads are gonna come off just do a cam anyways, my trucks not done yet but I got a Isky "tripple 12" through stock48, he runs run and kyle who, aka kbracing runs one in his personal turbo truck too. Its a 112/112 .561 112 LSA, stock48 can also get you the right valve springs too

IF you are going to pull your 317 heads off and buy another set of 317's that are of an unknown condition, don't buy the other pair.

Spend ~$500 on yours and get them cleaned, surfaced, valve job, mild clean up/port job, new springs (matched to cam), etc. Then you know what you have instead of bolting on an unknown.

If you are going turbo and pulling the top end off, I would do a cam now too.

I use LS9 head gaskets and ARP head studs. Common set up.

I don't think an intake manifold is needed unless you're looking for every last hp. Better stuff to spend your $ on in the beginning.

well I'm kinda on a budget and with last month being December (Christmas) the speed budget is low lol so thats why i was asking if the cam is needed for my gold, trying to avoid the snowball effect like swapping the cam oil pump timing chain & etc.... I know since the heads are probably going to be pulled in the long run its saving me $$ just no budget for it but if its a must do to get the truck to run what i want I'll hold off and just deal with thing the way they are for a little while

I'd say with a goal like that (very mild quite honestly) you should do a cam, and get a converter for that 80e, but dont worry about ported heads or different intake manifolds etc.

Teh cam and converter will shave a second off your times at a minimum. The converter in a turbo set up plays a HUGE role in getting you to the power sooner, and the cam can do that as well, while making more power up top. It also would be a good idea to put in new lifters while you are in there... ask me how I know.

yeah mild gold but its a daily driver and my kid will be behind the wheel at times (with me shotgun) hi 11's low 12's should be fun truck not a killer but surprise some on the street and will keep me in front of my pal's with sports cars lol

to be honest it runs surprisingly strong now for just a lq4/4l80e swap but I guess a cam is in the works since i'm doing heads it is the smarter way stall will be down the road when funding presents if self

i was told arp bolts would be fine for what i'm doing are the studs needed at 10 to 12psi? and the engine has to be pulled for stud I heard?

that is very impressive!

this truck ran a best of 11.98 with the prevous owner when it was turbo'd but he blew up a few engines along the way lol

Good luck avoiding the snowball effect.

I would approach it in stages if you are on a budget. Always nicer to have a running/driving project than one that just sits and absorbs $.
