need help

Default need help

i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to turbocharge a carburated engine. i hear that it is posible so i was wondering if anyone could help. also what would i need and where would i get it?

You need to build a box around the carb. The entire carb must be pressurized, and the bowl vents and overflow lines must terminate inside the box. Then pressurize the box with the turbo. Then put on a distributor that the vacuum advance also works as a boost retard. I think.

someone told me that i needed to get a blow through carb but i don't know where to get one. does that sound like something you have heard of?

get ahold of Maximum Boost by Bell, good book on turbos/supers and a chapter that explains carbs with boost applications

The book suggested is very good.
A blow-thru carb basically has the throttle and choke linkages sealed and the float bowl isolated from the incoming charge. The seals are there to prevent boost from leaking out and the float bowl from exploding the gaskets under high pressure.
This is a pretty rudimentary explanation, keep digging and researching!

i found a web site that makes blow through carbs that can take up to 26 psi. if anyone is intrested the web site is www.tpcracing.com

Corky Bell...sveral books out there. Just bot a nice thick on that cover FI & turbo. R/
