More boost for my Whipple
#12
He did say that he was interested in intercooling.
I think that they do everything that they can to keep you from upping the boost when you are using their piggyback system, since it can't even support the boost that they build into the kit. Also, maybe different-year systems might have different pulleys, I am running a 2-5/8" one now. I don't remember exactly, but I think my kit came with a 3-1/4".

The smallest AXO type pulley is the 3.5,i get 10 to 11 lbs of boost.
No meth or intercooler, just tuning the delphi 42s.
The pulleys were $110. 2 years ago migth be $300 by now

I called Whipple and ordered a 4” (2 sizes smaller) pulley. They said it should produce around 8-9lbs but they also said that the pulley I have should be 7-8lbs. I will be ordering a pin kit for the balancer today as well. I’m looking into a custom FMIC from TRT as well. . I’m not using the Whipple electronics.
Once I get my forged 370 together I’ll get a smaller pulley and see if I can get 10-12lbs out of it. But that has to wait awhile. I think I may need a new Transmission soon.
Thanks for all of your replies.

I have a 2-3/4" pulley on mine and its giving me about 5.5 - 6lbs of boost on the 8.1L. I tried a 2-1/2" pulley and I didnt get any more boost out of it, so I am pretty sure I have maxed this blower out. I have the whipple A2W interccoler and it works really well. At MIR on Sunday the ambient temps were about 95* (according to my mirror thermometer) and my IATs at the end of the 1/4 run were 131*. Cruising home they were 111*. I still think the 8.1L intercooler can be retrofitted for the small blocks but I have not seen anyone try it yet.

I could not see from your mods which Whipple you are running. If it is the 2.3, it's way to small for an 8.1. If it is the 3.3, you are still on the small side. I know on the Viper trucks(8.3 l), the 3.3 is just about maxed out at 6 lbs of boost and that is with a stock cam and no mods. For the 400-500 cu boat engines the Whipple kit runs 2 of the 2.3 superchargers. That is probally about the right size of supercharger for a mild motor of that size.
