Well then a leak down check will still work if you have the tool.

Two questions. One, what thermostat are you running? In cold weather like you might be seeing your oil may not be getting hot enough. Thick oil will slow spool as well as cause yellowish film at the cap. Where all are you seeing this colored oil?

stock thermostat
running 0w-30 synthetic oil, just coming from the breather hose off the valve cover.

Worked fine and easy. Kept loosing coolant. Small amounts. Nothing obvious in the oil, one plug showed small amount of off color. Used the kit to confirm.

A local auto-parts place. Don't remember how much its been years ago. Wasn't too expensive.

This milky oil can come from condensation and also blow by through the rings.
My 5.3 has been barfing this crap ever since I hurt it, even though it still runs, idles and gets decent mileage.
