Some facebook chit i came across....apparently the meth ate the coating off the rotors. I emailed the speed shop to get more details, but still a concern considering the number of us running some sort of meth/water injection and maggie/whipple/roots style blowers

The coating on most rotors wear off with out using meth/water injection..

 

It takes a while for this to happen, but methanol is aggressive stuff. I thought a good alternative would be to put the nozzles under the blower in a phenolic spacer, like the one that supersub made. It would be a lot of work and would need to be like 4 different nozzles to evenly distribute the meth, but it would save the rotors.

 

It doesn't look pretty. The real question is, will it hurt anything other than the look?

 

The rotor mesh isn't as tight without that coating. You lose boost because it leaks past the tiny gap that is created.

 

I think Rick @ trick also messed with a spacer with meth bars as well.

 

Get a turbo.

 

according to the shop that broke it down...the rotors were pitted...as methanol is very corrosive to aluminum.

the coating is not supposed to completely disappear...just used for a near 0 tolerance fit.

one issue with the post-blower (spacers etc) setup is fighting the vacuum. the check valves supplied with the kits are not strong enough.

an electric solenoid/trigger setup was mentioned in the discussion following this photo post.

turbo...trust me...i have thought about it....but honestly i am done with trying to make a late model truck fast in California. its just not worth the hassle with emissions and police. i will build up something else (pre-smog) in years to come...want to focus more on travel and working on the house at the moment.

I have seen setups that spray through the rotors. I've also seen Trick's setup that sprays meth or nitrous after the rotors. If I was going to use methanol, I'd spray after the rotors. Interesting to read that the check valves don't work well with boost. Hmmmm.....

Also, in my own research about methanol to cool IAT's on PD blowers, I found that most guys report very little drop in IAT's with the meth vs without the meth. But the methanol fuel's increased octane allowed them to run more timing, and that allowed them to make more power.

 

Well then get a turbo or a centri blower... Hmmm let me think.. Let me spend 6k on a new blower set up, wipe the rotors out from using stuff so my engine doesn't get wiped out..
