Max WHP for boosted truck on street tires
#1
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place...but I think you guys would have answers I'm looking for.
I'm finally to the fun part of my build doing some performance related upgrades. My end goal is to have a street driven turbo truck that I can have fun with. I'm not really interested in going to the track much(I may once or twice just for the hell of it) but I'm planning on sticking with my set of wheels that I have right now with some better tires.
So long story short I need to know what power level I can get to before I have serious traction issues so I know where to draw the line with my build. I will be running 315/35/20 tires (probably NT05s or NT05Rs). I'm guessing pretty much any truck at a decent power level 1st gear is useless on the street. I would however like to have traction in second gear or above. Is anyone running this size tire and at what power level before you have traction problems? My truck is 4 linked with coilovers so that should help a bit.
Thanks in advance yall's help, just trying to set some goals before this thing snowballs out of control.

Right now my truck still has a basically stock 4.8 w/ a 4l60e. I just picked up a lq4/4l80e combo with plans of building the motor/turbocharging but lately I've been thinking that may be overkill for a street driven truck. I'm pretty much trying to decide between a) turboing the 4.8, b) building the lq4 for N/A or c) building the lq4 for a turbo setup. As much as I love the idea of a high horsepower turbo truck I just don't want to dump a ton of money in a setup that is extremely traction limited. I'm 2wd as well.

Thanks for the info guys... Glad to know all this. As much as I want a crazy high hp truck it sounds like I need to stick to something a bit more mild if I'm going to stick with 20'' street tires or drag radials. Better to know now than to spend a bunch of $$ and not be able to put down the power.

Yea. That's why I'm sticking with a 4.8. Figure if I get 600 max effort from the 70mm turbo no need to build a 6.0 for boost. Gonna catch hell hooking the 600 with small motor/turbo. If I had it to do again I would buy same truck but 4x4. Oh well
