Default Maggie 112,shorty headers(cam choice?)

Appreciate some info from this "truck Forum". I am still undecided on cam choice for my build. I have a 6.0L ,112maggie 7lb boost, patriot III heads,cai,90mm tb,1 3/4x3 shorty headers, free flowing exhaust. Not sure if the same rules reguarding long tube headers & cams with overlap(scavenging) apply to maggie motors. Would a cam with some lope be affective with my setup ?(-3000 lb car).

Just one man's opinion after owning a couple of small Maggies. You can add a big cam and you might make a few extra hp on the top end....very few. A big cam will take some power off the bottom end. A mid size blower cam will pick up the top end and won't cost you anything on the bottom. If you need the rough idle and the lope of a big cam, go for it. It just won't make much if any more power than something like a mid two teens/ mid two twenties cam. The smaller cam will have better manners and mpg.

Just a guess....but I'm thinking +-20 hp. Thats assuming you have a good free flowing exhaust system behind the headers.

thank for the advise. I've seen articles that suggest that L.T.s are not as critical on blower motors(just good flowing exhaust) but not any side by side data to support one way or the other. Thanks again

I will say that before headers, I could squeak the tires from a stop (Hankook RH06's are grippy tires), but with LT's, I would leave 20 foot stripes. Do a search in the forced induction thread, tons of threads about LT's on blowers.

Hmmmm. With the MP112 on a 6.0L, you may not have much upside to using LT headers. You mentioned you had a good exhaust behind your shorties. Assuming 6.0L, mp112, mild blower cam, and shorties, the mp112 is probably the choke point. If you had shorties already, I wouldn't change them. If you're now putting things together, use the LT's.

for ground clearance reasons I went with shorty's. I've done a "search ". most people agree that maggie motors like LT's. But the comparisons are against stock manifolds or the 1 5/8 x 2 1/2 shorty's, not 1 3/4 x3 shorty's . If not for the problems I would have gone LT. Still not sure how cylinder scavenging(cams with overlap & LT headers) play a roll on a blower motors. I thought it would be a good idea to understand more about it before selecting a cam. Good luck all.

GT2-3. Small cam, big results.
6L, 112, 9 psi, LTs=470/501 for me.
