You can check the intake for a vacuum between the MAF and Throttle Body. If you dont have any vacuum between the MAF and Throttle Body then the MAF is not a restriction.

P0101 is not caused by a max'd MAF. It's caused by a calibration problem as zippy said or possibly a dead cat converter, but you'd see MAJOR boost if that was the case. P0101 appears when the MAF measured and the VE calculated airflow is beyond the allowable threshold. My assumption would be that the tuner didn't quite bump up MAF rationality test/delta airflow table enough. This is dangerous to run the way you have it, as the moment that code trips, you revert back to speed density and are likely running extremely lean.
