Just had a question that I keep throwing around in my head. What is the max boost you can run on the LSx engines with stock internals and a cam? I thought this was about 7psi.
Dirt_Track_racers old boss put an STS kit on his like 86ish chevy pickup pushing 15psi. Stock internals aside from a small cam. with the TQ Locked he dyno'd in at around 540FTlbs on a mustang dyno. Unlocked he pushed closer to 430ftlbs.
So what is the most someone has ran on a cammed lsx?
Edit: Aside from the transmission getting destroyed.

parish pushes a lot of boost thru a stock 5.3. not sure the exact amount but thats saying somthing. also theres a few other with around 15-17 on stock motor. i believe black03ss ran 17 when he went high 11s

I will say this....anyone asking that question is looking for problems later down the road. I think the people running over 10 psi on stock motors are on borrowed time....and time will tell.
17 psi and 100 track passes does not impress me as much as 8 psi and 275,000 miles on a stock motor. But hey, that is my opinion

wuss

sure if your looking for 275,000 miles i can't really comment on that. when the motor you are working with can be picked up for $400-$1000 i would be ok with swaping it out every 100,000 miles or so if thats what it needed.
do not let is detonate(ever) and the ls motors can handle a pile of power in stock form for a very long time. i have done it on several motors now. i dont think it is soo much a boost number as a hp number. 18psi on a stock 5.3 or 14psi on a camed 5.3 both puts you at 600rwhp. i would be confident at 600rwhp on any ls motor. if you try and push it too far on pump gas it will blow up well before 600rwhp. if you run it lean it will blow up. if you run too much timing it will blow up. be conservate on everything but the boost and you will make a lot of power for a long time.

600rwhp on a camed 5.3 thru an unlocked th400. counting the track and dyno at leat 400 passes. still runing strong, no smoke, no noise.
640rwhp in a camed 6.0 with head studs but i dont think the head studs were needed. thru a locked 4l80 and tcase. 100+ runs with this set up but blew it up with a nitrous misshap. noid stuck open on me.

According to CARB documents available from Magnacharger, 7 psi appears to be the limit in order to remain emissions legal in California, and is perhaps where that number came from. But as Parish8 mentioned, the engines can actually take much more as long as one is careful about detonation, AFR, etc..

Cool. I was just just shocked that he got 15psi on a genI, tho he don't drive it very hard. It'll be a while down the road before I get an sts kit, but i was wanten probably 9psi. that should put a good fight to a lot of cars.

what size gen1 are you talking about.
like parish put it, 600 rwhp on a 324 cubic inch block with 16 to 18 psi,
at stock or with a cam.
now if is a 305 with 15 psi making 540 fpt at the rear wheels
i would say cool.
but if it is a small block 400 at 15 psi making 540 fpt at the wheels
i would ask what is wrong.
