advancing and retarding the cam are really tricks for the n/a crowd though, usually advancing the cam will bring the power band down and retarding it will raise it, but it has alot to do with the intake closing event, when you advance the cam it will close the intake valve sooner which can raise your dynamic compression, and help the lowend, but on a boosted engine where everything is being forced in, im not sure that there is too much to gain. you might be limiting yourself a little bit.

I'm glad you made this post. I picked up a used XR265HR-15 (212/218, 550+/550+ 115 LSA) and and contemplating the same thing. Comp lists this cam as an upgrade for the 2002+ LS6 cam so I figured it would make a good, DD turbo cam for a heavy *** truck. When I bought my 6.0l iron block, I also picked up a JP Performance double Roller Timing chain with it that allows you to advance/retard the cam.

My 4L80E was installed yesterday so I have to hit up Rick at Synergy Motorsports about swinging by and having him upload 4L80E software. I'll hit him up about it and see if he thinks there is any advantage with a turbo.

thanks, Rick

X2 please let us know what Rick says.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with an LS6 cam and the TVS 1900. I wanted to keep everything at a max of 6K rpms in hopes of picking up a little bit more around 2k rpms.

My only concern was some unknown bad side affects. BTW how much did you advance the cam 4.8T?

Thanks!
Russ

I've shifted my 4.8 w/z06 cam as high as 6400 and it always felt like it was pulling just fine. I'm sure it would make more power even higher. A turbo will usually extend the power range that is advertised for a cam.

well i'm still tuning it. it was going rich in that area. so i'm going to lean it out a bit and try it again. with stock cam i had to shift like 54-5600 just would not pull past it. no matter what turbo. the little on or the big one.
