Default Low Boost 416 Single Turbo Selection

Hey guys I’m building a 77 C10 and I’ve got a 416 short block with LS3 heads that I was originally planning on slapping a TVS2300 onto but my brother is enjoying the blower so I want to do another turbo build. I only plan to make 650-700whp on E85 so it won't take much on a 416. I’d like to use a KB or Trick T4 manifold and I’d actually also like to use my blower cam as well with the following specs. Any thoughts? Not going for forum winning dyno numbers just a tire spinning street truck. Most will think my numbers are sorry for a 416 but I’m fine with that.

227/243, .612/595, 117 LSA

A good 76mm will be a very fun street turbo for that combo and make the power you are wanting. Personally I would do an 80mm since goals tend to grow over time, should still spool fine on the 416.

VS Racing keeps pushing me towards a T6 75mm cast wheel that they offer, something like this:

Atomic what are your thoughts on the cam? It's sorta like if you turbskied your 402 with the blower cam in it lol

Your cam has a pretty late exhaust valve close, make sure your turbine is on the large side or it won’t like the back pressure with that exh close.

That looks just like a borg S475 ripoff, so if it behaves the same will probably be fine, but like I said I would go towards the 80mm just to meet future goals. But the VS stuff is so cheap replacing it later isnt out of the question.

Thats more exhaust duration than I would want in a small turbo - big engine setup, and Pat is right about what will happen, but what that will actually look like is the power feeling low or soft in the upper rpms. The turbo is going to make power regardless, but the cam isnt optimal for that setup. Youll easily have 2.5-3:1 backpressure ratio at higher rpm. Good for spool and responsiveness, not so great for absolute power, but thats not your goal here.

Sounds like an S480 is in the cards. Something like this would probably fit the bill if i wasn't going for the China boi special?

Because I want to use my wholesale accounts to buy an off the shelf turbo at a discount, hehe. I also think that turbo selection is pretty straight forward.

I'm pretty set on either a BW S480 T6 (need help on the A/R) or the classic "china boi" / Denmah sloppy mechanics special VS Racing S480 billet wheel T6.

All that on a Trick T6 manifold and crossover. Treadstone intercooler with inlet/outlet going under the core support like the Trick Race intercooler I had on my '05. And I'll swap out the cam.

Finally! An explanation of how a blower friendly cam will work with a turbo. I am so tired of the generic "not ideal for a turbo" or "you will leave a lot on the table with that cam" answers.
