Default List of best bottom ends.

Her is my delema. I have a 5.3 on the linethat is cheaper and I am already driving right by it to pick up other parts. It is an 01 5.3 with 120,000..

I also have a line on an 06 4.8. It is a bit more expensive and an additional 16 hour drive. Not that drive wouldn't be just for the engine as I have family that I would visit.

I couldn't find it so do we have a list of years that the rods changed or anything else in the bottom end?

my direct questions is an 06 4.8 a noticeably better bottom end then an 01 5.3?

That is what I was thinking. There is a $200 difference and 16 hours of driving but I really thought the 01 was by far inferior. Looks like two long road trips this week.

Ultimately anything 05 and after has the stronger bottom end, timing chain set ups in them.

For the cost of gas and your time, it would be much cheaper to ship the motor than drive 16 hours to get it.

I would not spend the extra money or drive to get the newer motor. The rods might be a little better, but the older motors have proven to be very strong as well. Foose04 4.8 was an 03 with the "weak" rods and look at the power it held, only to break a piston! The tune is way more important then the rods, you probable blow either motor up with a bad tune before you break any rods!

by the time you drive to pick up the more expensive 4.8, you can buy 2 of the 5.3 engines. i'd take the 5.3 if it's still a strong runner.
