Noticed it on a oil change, we both were sad together. lol

Now studded and ls9's I been to 22psi and 15.5 timing and no tears yet....
Thats my goal is to go to ls9 gaskets and maybe some valve springs and head studs.

Ideally I want to be at 20psi and have 600 wheel. I think its achievable. Just need to build the trans to hold it at the track.

My buddy just blew his gasket apart at 60+psi...of course it's a diesel, which is all anyone cares about in this town

Ill try and get one up for ya, its suuuperr quiet driving around mildly, such as to and from work...but as soon as the boost comes in and the rpm's climb its a nice tuned v8 sound. Not raspy at all like a naturally aspirated motor.

Overall absorbs a TON of sound for a straight through muffler.

I had a flow master and the sound of the magna flow blows it out of the water.

Yea I agree, its just what my truck came with.

Anything but the 4.8 is hard to find in the new ext cabs. and forget about finding a 6.2... at least for a reasonable price.

Plus the 4.8 has the lowest compression ratio allowing more boost than the 5.3 and 6.2.

I was under the impression that the 4.8 and 5.3 had the same pistons and heads... The difference in the two comes from the stroke, and is why it allows for more boost.

Compression is the same, 5.3 has a dish piston, 4.8 is flattop to make up the difference with the same heads. 4.8 has shorter stroke and longer rods. Both are about 9.5:1

The exact reason I just pulled and sold the lq9 ans t56 out of my rcsb. Now its back to the little old 4.8.

I know this is the case on the older ones, but I was referring the the NNBS motors with the 243/799 heads. How do the 5.3's keep the compression with the larger chambers?

Yea the newer 5.3's with 799 heads have flat top pistons to keep the compression up.

So the newer 5.3's should be boost powerhouses also? I mean as they are they arent a slouch !

I guess the moral of the story is , work with what you have! Not one combo/swap is perfect for eveyone.

But the cool thing is, average people who know nothing of the 4.8 's potential let em go cheap and thats good for us Joe Hotrodders out there!
