When in doubt, I call a co.( here, it's SW) & see what they say. Do before & after results. Using a dyno, track or both. Not like it's been said before, but results may vary. I like to verify, just for myself. It separates the truth from the conjecture. Then, if u have a way low figure (on any product) it allows u to decide to probably not use a co. again. If the results are inline w/ expected or exceed, you'll use a product or brand on future builds & recommend to others.

I called Dynatech to ask what to expect of their LTs. A rep told me on a 5.3 expect...on a 6.0L. W/ a CAI, expect this. I told him how I verify before & after, & he seemed very interesting. Too bad I forgot what mod(s) I had since so much time passed from 1 dyno session to the next. Before the big mod, now I have to re-dyno, if u will.

Then I go to track. Make a min. of 3 runs w/ no changes. Slap next part on. Re-dyno. Again to track 3 runs min. Ya, I know all the separate dyno runs cost $$, but I'm in this hobby to learn & have fun. Good Luck.

As for hiflow cats, I think any time u can reduce restriction, do so. Do either Magnaflow or Random make hi flow cats for 8.1?

Where I get my truck Emission tested they ALWAYS look. If I were going to do anything, I'd either get a used set or an aftermarket set and hollow them out (or the ones you have, although you prob. wanna keep them "in case"), then put them on. It looks like cats, but that's about it. I actually took an air hammer and hollowed out the cat on an old Mazda MX6 I had cuz' it was clogged and the car ran a ton better, and still went right thru emissions. I would never, ever, ever, never pay $600 for a set of high flow cats!!! You got too much money to even talk like that.

Hey what can i say....my Ford stock has gone up like $1.50 in the last 2 days.

Some things i know nothing about so you guys will have to bare with me. Just for the record, I would not have bought them......was just trying to understand the gain of "pass thru" CATs and how much difference they made. I know your not skipping the gym today just because yesterday was a holiday right Timmy?

What I meant was I think if the Hi flow cats are in the power potential you are trying to get to, there will be no difference between them and No cats at all. Stock cats are set up for stock applications, and over time they do get more restrictive. And if you are trying to make X power and be legal about it you will need some cats on the truck.
Other wise just get some cheap bullet mufflers or hollowed cats and call it. Someone looks under the truck and will see you have things in place.

Actually, (albeit off-topic) I got dressed and ready for the gym but decided to skip it. I had to leave the gym early on Monday after about 4 sets of bench into my deal due to not "feeling right". I don't know what's going on. I felt good yesterday but not 100% today, so said fuggit. I got a follow up doctors appt. on Monday@2:30 so I might miss again. I was hoping to be back in the 300 club by the end of the year but I'm running out of time, especially with this set-back. There's always next year, I'll be back!

Anyway, I would find some converter "shells" somewhere or cheap generic one's and hollow them out. I don't know where you go, but have mine emission tested on Joh Avenue in Baltimore (near St. Agnes Hospital) and they ALWAYS check.

I am suprised those guys will let you talk to them unless your repping 315 . Place was dead in there today anyway so i was in and out pretty fast.

I get mine tested over on Ordnance Rd....back by the home depot. I will try and locate some "shells" that have a 3" inlet/outlet and throw them on with the headers. If i remember correctly, they just hopped in the truck, drove it in, and hooked up the OBDII. Took all of 4 minutes to get done.
