Default Interesting spark plug observation at the dealership today

I was at the Cadillac dealership today visiting a buddy. There was a new ctsv in the bay and i was poking around asking questions. He said they use stock iridium type of spark plug. He said they never have issues and they come stock at 9psi. He did say they were a colder heat range. I looked them up online and they are gapped at .040. I just thought it was interesting since everyone on here says iridium plugs and FI is a bad combo.

Its because people are cheap and they figure copper is more forgiving.

I use OEM Delco plugs part #41-104. I they work in a ZR1 they'll work in my 5.3

Speaking in general, i think people should be more informed about spark plugs, myself included. I'm sure there is ALOT of information on them that people never really take the time to consider. Make us an awesome write up I'm all ears.

the thing i found pretty cool is the factory gap is so wide compared to what most of us run, and the fact they were iridium... Back when i was NA, my truck always ran best with iridium plugs vs the various NGK TRxx plug of the moment.

I ran the 41-104 iridium plugs that come stock in the zr-1 as well for a while with the procharger. Gap was also .040 iirc. Truck ran perfectly fine with them. Only reason I went back with the NGK coppers was to drop another heat range and close the gap a bit when I upped the boost to 15psi. I believe those iridiums are somewhere between a 6&7 heat range.

From a thread i got from a corvette forum those 41-104 are heat range 7.

Spark plugs heat range 5:
TR5
TR55

Spark Plugs heat range 6:
TR6: 4177 (Mostly used in GM's. Comes pre-gapped around .038 and most often used in low boost supercharger, low boost turbo, small nitrous shot, and strong n/a tuning on 91 octane and less)
BKR6E-11: 2756
LZTR6AIX-13: 2315 (Chrysler spark plug. Commonly used in Jeep 3.8L supercharged)

Spark Plugs heat range 7:
BP7EFS: 3526 (Mostly used in GM's. Comes pre-gapped around .028 and is most often used in higher boost and nitrous applications. For those running high compression and trying to get by on 91 octane this plug may be a good option. This plug is very similar to the TR6 except heat range and base gap.)
BR7EF: 3346 (Mostly used in GM's. Comes pre-gapped around .028 and is most often used in higher boost and nitrous applications. For those running high compression and trying to get by on 91 octane this plug may be a good option. The key to this plug is the non-projected tip.)
AC Delco 41-104: 12571165 (This is the spark plug that comes in the LSA and LS9's. If you want to use an iridium spark plug and run a supercharger this is the spark plug to use). NGK equivalent would be the TR7ix

interesting info in this thread, believe it or not... Kinda funny all those guys referring to their DIC... there is one post from supposedly a NGK tech saying not to use the TR6 plug in a FI car...

I am always up for new and stupid ****. I might give those plugs a try...
