Default Interesting info on stock internals of a fallen member's motor

well because i was curious to see what a stock internal motor would look like after severe abuse for almost 7k miles i decided to tear down my "freak 4.8" as some would call it just to see. well what i came to find is alot of things posted on the internet are urband legends. youll see first hand results of abuse. this motor seen as high as 20 psi from a PT88 turbo, 100% untouched internals besides ARP rod bolts purchased for 88 bucks. this combo seen steady 16psi shifting at 7500 daily and hit the rev limter at 7700 plenty of times messing around.

when i installed the rod bolts i removed one at a time without disturbing the caps. i then did the tightend them down 3 times to strengh them.

so first myth is ppl on net speak of how rod bearings spin...here is proof of almost 7k worth of abuse, if they were going to spin the would of at beginning

next up is the famous myth that number 7 runs lean and cant take abuse so you either melt it or kill a ringland. well here is proof of number 7 from 5 angles

as you can see no distortion or any kind. how this lived under so much power was i kept my motor as cool as possible. normally my motor would run around 150* highest temp it seen was 178-185 usually in traffic. So kids keep your tune in check and your motor real cool and you can have number 7 last

next myth to be tested is how stock rods will bend anywhere near 900 hp. well with 20 psi going thru this motor at times and 16 day in day out you can see with your own eyes the rods are in fact straight

next myth is stock main bolts are not strong enough to handle the stress of high PSi. its claimed that they cause the thrust bearing to be distorted from the caps walking. AT this power level i had no signs of this. now if you start pushing over 1k then id be more concern but under 1k here is proof

next up is a comparison of a 2002 4.8 rod vs a 2009 5.3 rod. you can easily see how much beefier the later rods are

so if 2002 rods held up to this power level, then the later rods shouldnt have any issue handling same power or even more....way to go GM....

I copied that from another site and thought it would be useful to some to see proof of how strong these motors actually are.

I'd like to see the rod side of the rod bearings. The cap side bearings don't tell you much, even then that one looks extremely good. The center main cap bearing looks extra awfully extremely good.

Typically longer rod motor can take more abuse.I wouldn't apply what was found here to any other stock internal lsx other then a 4.8.I had a strong feeling the little guys could take a beating.

His was the reason I stayed 4.8 and went to 241 heads.Only difference far as my 4.8 is concerned is my block is studded and my heads are ported.
