LOL! It was a phase. Easy to spot oil leaks.

Easy to spot from space too!

But for real, with the heads off was anything obvious?

Unfortunately I don't know what to look for but I did not melt a piston. All the pistons look the same to me. I would think if there was a bad ring one of the pistons would look different. More carbon or something.

What shape was the cam in? Lifters?

edit: was this the motor you had a pressure issue with at first because the galley plug was left out by the shop?

I'm going to pull the cam tomorrow. If it's in good shape it will be going in the other engine along with the DOD delete kit and arp studs. I'm unsure what to do about springs since I can't remember what springs were used on the 5.7. I might just grab some cheap ls6 springs I think they will work with the triple 12 cam.

If I decide to gap the rings can I pull each piston 1 at a time gap the rings and reinstall? Since I'd be reusing bearings there is no need to plastigauge correct? Just torque bolts and should be good.

maintain the rod cap orientation and you'll be fine. Dont break a ring or you'll be mad

I'd hit the cylinders with WD40 and a 240 grit ball hone then open the gap on a new ring set.
Be sure to clean the hone grit from the cylinders.
