I would get the Metallic Magnaflow cats. Not sure if they have the CARB number yet or not though. I passed SMOG with them in December 07. I think they were about $150 for the set if I am not mistaken.

Which they do here every time you get inspected.

I don't know how so many people take out the cats.. I HATE the smell of exhaust on a non cat'd vehicle. Sure for a weekend cruiser, maybe, but on a DD... that would drive me nuts

Yeah good luck running catless in CA, home of the emissions *****. IMO, your best bet would be to get a set of high flow Magnaflows for daily driving like trever1t said, and save your stock Y-pipe to put back on when it's time to go see the emissions ***** to pass smog.

Just wait until you get pulled over and tested ON THE SPOT. Spend the money and stay legal.

I bet your truck would still pass the sniffer with hollowed out cats.

It's been so long since I have had to smog a vehicle that I wanted to be sure that if I went with the Magnaflow hi-flow cats the smog inspection would go smooth. It would be my luck that I run into the overzealous inspector who fails my vehicle for non complying parts.

I don't mind the $300 price tag since it will probably be about $150-200 for the ORY and definitly cheaper than the $2000 fine for no cats. Do you guys still get the catalytic converter smell after being in boost? If so, how long does it last?

I dont know about doing it in cali with all of the restrictions you have, but I melted a set of magnaflow high flows after about a year and a half with my Radix. Then I just got rid of em and fixed the problem.
