When people recommend AFR's it makes a difference what fuel the OP is using. With lambda, it doesn't make a difference. It's so much easier to think in lambda too; lambda=1 is stoich, <1 is rich, >1 is lean. But, since most widebands work on a gasoline scale, suggestions made on this scale would be relevant as long as everyone is on the same page. I have an AEM wideband and set it to display lambda. Using lambda/EQR is also easier for tuning.
