don't smoke, no bombs. I also stuck my hand in the J-Tube to see where I felt the most pull. What was clearly evident was that with the vacuum I created any inner radius was attracting the bulk of the air and where I felt the most pull on my hand. Also you can see where the strings are pulled right around the sharp 180degree radius inside the J-Tube. Makes me feel even better about sanding down that casting ridge that was right at that same section.

Grippy, I really like the way you think and report to us your exploits on this forum.
With all the years I've worked with a flow bench, some of the best experiences I've learned from was when I used my hands and fingers to get a feel for how air behaves. It's amazing to see how smooth to the touch laminar air flow is compared to turbulent flow. A 28"+ vacuum depression really makes the point.
Now, go plug your vacuum into some 220 volts and see for yourself!

As silly as it sounds, nice topic and thanks for bringing it up. Leave no stone unturned..........

Richard

U might want to try putting a few strategically placed cardboard fins at other than parallel angles tosmooth the airflow out and guide the air thru the abrupt curve....take a look at the stock plenum from the 5.3. Everyone craps on it, but in reality there's a heck of alot of R&D that went into the deisgn to cut out turbulence, improve airflow and optimize volume I'm sure. Prob not worth much HP's, but every little bit helps!

The saying has officially changed from:

"This one time, at band camp..."

to

"This one time, in Grippy's garage..."

thanks Richard, thanks guys...................when I put my hand in the J-Tube the airflow did not feel turbulent like the strings indicated. Maybe I'll try and find a smoke maker and see what that shows.........hmmm............I will tell you this, I was really surprised at the force my hand was pulled to the inner radius of any bend, it actually pulled and held my hand to that sarface, amazing!
