I would just run stock 5.3 heads. 8.6 would feel like a dog out of boost. That goal is very attainable with stock heads with good springs

You could mill the 241's but that would reduce the deck thickess some, not a huge deal unless you are going to be pushing LOTS of boost. Or you could pick up a set of non-notch factory heads with the correct CC volume. What year is your 5.3L?

if you want to run more then 15 psi and keeping upping the boost. which is very addictive! i would run the 241. if you are staying with low boost get a set of stock 5.3 heads that are not notched! im running about 8.7 -1 compression and out of boost isnt too bad. normal driving is good. but im also running 19-21 psi lol. that turbo on e85 will like more boost.
good luck with the build.
BTW, im running a 06 shortblock, stock rods, stock flat top pistons out of a 08' 5.3, and 317 heads and ls9 head gaskets.
last time we were tuning, i was on 18 psi, 91 pump gas and no knock retard. im running 21 now with meth.

the motor is a 2000 and yes i plan to run more than 15#'s

thats why i figured the 241 would be ideal, truck ownt get alot of track time, and when it does its only the 1/8 mile..

I would say find some 243/799s. Much better flow same compression and about the same price. You can find complete 243s for about $300 now thanks to them being stock on gen IV 4.8/5.3 motors. I believe that is what Mitch is running in his 10sec turbo 5.3 ecsb.
