Smile Hard to gain back boost that is lost by adding long tube headers.

I have a 5.3L V8 with a roots style supercharger, wanted to add long tube headers but was told it would be hard to gain back the boost that will lost by added them. Is this true?

Yes, you will loose boost, however by freeing up the exhaust, you will pick it right back up.. Making boost is on thing. But doing it on a free flowing exhaust is another.. The more in and out the better. So if you lost 1psi from adding headers, you made it up with the addition of them.

What John said is true. You may loose a little boost, but you will gain power anyways. Then you can swap to a smaller pulley to get the boost back(easy), and get yet another gain in power.

Do you already have a good cam for that blower?

I think people see boost reading as power.. remember the reading you see is a measure of resistance. That is why you loose boost, but gain power. The same thing would happen with a nice set of heads.

boost=restriction....

ex.

stock cam and heads 15psi = 600rwhp

blower cam and cnc ported heads 10psi = 650rwhp

You used headers with small primaries, and small collectors. That's probably why.

For me:

Boost with shorties= smallish burnouts.

Boost with LT's and no cats= screaming hell and roasting tires.
