Wait, you have a ball bearing GT67?

 

I was under the impression that all GT67's were ball bearing. I'm researching now to see if it is. STS made the comment that I didn't have a ball bearing turbo. But I thought the company said it was. Under investigation. When I first cranked it up (right out of the box), it sounded like ball bearings rattling.

 

I think you probably have the older style shaft without BBs. I am not 100% sure but I think that the center housings with BBs require water cooling and perhaps slightly different oil flow characteristics.

 

How much did you pay? That will tell you if it's a BB unit or not.

 

A t60-1 was sent in for upgrade and it was $500 to have it converted to the GT67.

 

Hmmm...I don't think that's a BB unit. A BB turbo can run in upwards of $2K.

Have you seen if you can send it back to them for an inspection?
