Default going with STS later, what size

im going with a STS kit after I finish the custom interior and trailer on my boat. I only want the kit for the street and for towing. mainly getting the STS because of all the increase MPG while street driving and the 2-3 MPG increase while towing. my truck is and will be a stock 5.3 !cats and a muffler after the turbo. I will have a FMIC and alkycontrol kit. What size turbo will match my needs for the best towing experience with hill climbs and better MPG?? also, trans will be built with a stock TC tuned.

The GT67 with the right exhaust side is going to get you more bottom end than the base turbo supplied with the kit. The smaller AR will allow for quicker spools on your 5.3, but look out.....there is enough there to shatter a piston pretty quick. If you are interested I am going to be taking my intercooled STS system off and selling it in the next couple of weeks.

I had a 60-1 with a GT wheel that spooled very quick on my old 5.3, now I have a GT-67 on a 5.3. It spools alittle slower, but it can move a whole bunch more air.

Here is my though on this....
If you know that the 5.3 will be you power plant choice forever, then get the 60-1, if you are thinking of doing a 6.0 swap (helps with towing BTW) get the GT-67..

thanks blownchevy... but in a couple weeks i will have spent a few grand on the boat and trailer.
what size AR do you recommend that I get with the GT67 STS kit? also, at 5-7 pounds, and a tune, will I have to worry about a busted piston? as long as I watch EGT's and such??

how bad would the towing be between the 60-1 and the 67 on a 5.3 ?? I want the 2-3MPG increase towing that everyone claims to get? sometimes having to climb steep grades and such?
also, mind you that the TC will be stock

see wilde's post.

I have a 81 A/R on my GT67 and it is spooled up by 3K.
