Default Gear sizing with 80e and turbo

So I need some advice on what gears to run in my truck. Factory my truck had a 60e which I swapped for a 80e, stock gears in the rear are 342 right now and it really feels sluggish from a dead stop. I’ve got a new set of 4:11 gears and a tru-trac, but I’m not sure on going that low of a gear. My tires are 31” OD, oh and I’m running the newer pt88 billet wheel turbo with a .96a/r t4 turbine housing. It lights up pretty quick once going, easily 10psi by 3200rpm from a dead stop...... just really wanting some opinions on what gears some other members are running in their turbo trucks, mostly ones running lower gears and how they act on the street and highway. Thanks!

The 4.11s will be perfect for that.

Done deal! Just needed a little reassurance! Haha

i was hesitant because ive heard people talk about higher gears are better for “loading” turbos. I think it’ll be fine in my setup too, because I don’t have a huge stall converter! I’m running a multi disc 2400 258mm billet deal. It drives pretty much like a factory, so I’m thinking I may even spoil the turbo a little faster with the 4:11 gears!

Long gears make boost easier, short gears go faster. So would you rather make boost or go fast?

Go fast hands down! With the gear change do you think there will be any significant difference in how it builds boost?

You'll probably cover a greater distance on an off-idle launch without making any significant boost but by then you're already a bus length or more ahead of the equivalent truck with 3.42s. The 3.42s will spend more time in boost than the 4.10s but will still lose the race to the lower gearing.

gotcha! That’s what I was thinking, but didn’t know for sure. I’m still pretty confident that it’ll still build boost rather quick with the 4:11 gears, I was thinking it may just build boost a little higher in the rpm range.

I am in the exact same boat. 5.3, 80e, billet s480 with 3.42’s and the thing is a freaking dog till it gets spooled. Was planning on 4.10’s or even a 4.30 gear change over the winter. Good to see positive thoughts on the swap

What size turbine wheel and turbine housing is on your s480? And is it a t4 or T6? Also, what converter and size stall are you running?
