crew cab options

Id like opinions on a functional street truck. Has to b a 99-06 crewcab chevy but wanna be able to make it in the 12s 1/4 mile. I've been studying the lsx gas combos but someone suggested a duramax. I happen to have a 02 dmax motor n Allison Trans in my garage if that's worth messing with.
I do like the ability to swap stock parts on lsx motors n make decent power.
Main thing is I want to maintain driveability. Reliability would b nice too.
Let me know what uve seen work.
Rough estimates on prices n requirements would b nice too.

It really depends on how deep your pockets are. If you're trying to stay on a budget then I'd do the following: Intake, Exhaust, Tune, Cam, Gears, Locker, and Spray. If you aren't worried about money then you could always put on a supercharger or turbocharger with supporting mods. Any of these options will get you where your goal is.

im thinking a low mile 4l80e (isnt around 03+ best years?)
a 6.0 w l92's n l76.
decent cam. no real idea on profile
locker and a set of gears...
id really like a turbo setup 4k would be my cap on a setup.

The Duramax you have will def. get ya in the 12's easy,
Lots of tune only Dmaxes seeing high 12's. But you will need to build the allison/stall to handle that kind of power eventually.
Either gas or diesel you can get there, just depends what you want to spend.

tim the horsepower variations in the duramax engines over the years whats been the part changed to achieve this?
idk why its easy for me to give justification to myself and spend 4500 on a turbo kit but cant fathom that on a transmission... go figure

The difference in horsepower ratings are mostly tuning.
01-04 was LB7 , external wastegated turbo. 5 speed ally
04.5 -06 was LLY - Had VVT ( variable vane turbo) Electronically controlled turbo vanes- 5 speed allison
06-07 LBZ - VVT turbo, 6 speed allison ( stronger than the 5 speed, but nothing na trans build wont take care of.)
Also tuning was changed each year for more power.
Any Dmax can be tuned for lots of power reguardless of what they came with stock, its all in the tune.
