Default Cranked up the boost on my truck!!

Well I finally saved all my pennies and cashed in for aem wideband gauge for my truck. I been running around on 5psi until I got a wideband for it. I cranked her up this weekend. Right now at wot punch it goes up to 12psi then back drops down to 8psi due to using a manual boost controller, until I can save for a electronic controller. I made a couple of short passes just to make sure a/f and fuel psi was fine. its showing 10.0 on the wideband and holding at 58psi in fuel. Running rich though. Friend was saying it puffed black smoke when goin into second gear. Hoping to get hptuners soon so i can read up alot and learn to tune, also with help from nelson. But it runs strong as heck.

I have the wastegate dumping back into the exhaust. The boost controller was homemade from westlake hardware. I am going to try using a softer spring inside of it. The checkball is heavier from some of the boost controllers I have seen that you can buy. Just has to go up to 12psi to break the seat on the check ball.

Oh, ok. When i plumbed mine back into my exhaust, it spikes about 1# and then settles back down, but with it vented to the atmosphere it never spiked. I have a cheap one i got from jegs, and it seems to work perfect.

IDK what is proper A/F on FI but agreed, 10 sounds quite low. Why buy HPT if Nelson does your tunes? Or do u just want to view? U do know Nelson locks tunes in, right?

Maroon20's, how long have u been boosted, BTW?

With this tune and motor, just a couple months. But a little over a year.

Nelson says he tunes for 10.5 -11.5 I do believe. And 10.0 is the the lowest my gauge goes too. I have a mail order tune from nelson. He lives in tx as I live in mo. I am wanting to get hptuners so that I can log some files and send them to him via email so he can view to see if any corrections can be made and then he can retune if needed and send it back to me via email. Many of guys do this. As well as me learning how to tune as well. Also Nelson can unlock pcms if requested. So when I have him retune for the 80e I can just have him unlock it when he sends me a new pcm.

I figured u wanted to view & log, not reflash.
I was unaware he'd unlock @ your request. If I'd known this a while ago...
Short of tuning on the spot, I like the log it/ then email tune(s) idea.

Oh yea huge jump goin to 10psi. I know the trans is prob feeling it too saying no,no, stop lol. Hopefully I can get the money saved up for the shift kit for the 80e and drop that puppy in. I only had 80% tq management taken just to try to pro long the stocker before I drop the 80e in. I still kind of bogs goin into 2nd gear but not like it did with the stock tune. Any clues as to what I sould do next running 10psi?
Thanks Thomas
