Go for it man!

Have fun, a low mile 5.3 are 500 $ all day long. So if ya pop it no biggie.

I just dont like high mile lifters.

I did a cam swap on the 183,000 mile 5.3 that came in my truck and the lifters took a ****.

After i swapped the 6.0 in i tore down the 5.3 and the cylinders were perfect with crosshatching. Some one took care of the motor.

GM fuel injected V-8s are know for 300,000 or more depending on how they were treated.

other then me recently (within the last 2years) running a 93 tune and having some fun, its been treated pretty well. never towed anything and the engine has always seen synthetic oil.

but like ive said, little concerned with how its feeling slightly sluggish down low so ill atleast get it checked out to see how long it might have lol.

my old 5.3 had 181k on the ticker before it was totaled.

138K here, pushing 12 psi. Do a prelim checkout, and if it's good, boost away!!

$500 is pretty reasonable.
Tim, now I know why u asked me was I gonna replace lifters when we talked today.

Now that smokeshow (& others) said u might be losing compression because of all the wear & tear on it. That means boost will be pushing past the rings, too. I would do a compression check...I guess maybe I better check my compression, not cause i have 75k, but cause I hammer the **** outta my truck.

Rick_Vor said FI is tough on perfectly running engines. I won't disagree or comment on that, but so is NA, sray & turbos. I too think it's how the person "drives" it.

been meaning to add, anyone wanna recommend a turbo setup for a DD 5.3 4x4? ive tried doin some research and seems a 70mm should fit fairly well for 6-10#s and even better if i ever wanted 10-15#s.

lets just say WAY more DD then it will ever see track time, unless i get hooked out there someday lol. also figuring a tc in the 2600-3000rpm range, if that helps factor in size at all.

if you can afford it, boost away. Talk to 53russell on here, he just had a boosted 5.3 for something like 20k miles I wanna say until it started blowing by really bad. I would play it safe if you dont have a lot of play room

Exactly what quick said. Miles means nothing, abuse is what takes a toll.. Give it a compression test. If it checks out ok, boost it.. But for general maint I would put a new timing chain in there, maybe, maybe lifters. Other then that have at it if all is good in a PM check Bigg ?? is what miles is on the trans, rear..
