Default Boosting a high mileage 5.3

I have a 2011 Silverado with a 5.3 that’s bone stock with 170,xxx miles on the clock. Truck has been well taken care of and still runs like a champ. Looking into pulling the trigger on a KB turbo or trick turbo kit for it. Is it worth doing on such a high mileage motor or would it be better to keep it how it is and let its live out it’s days?

Go for it, the bottom end won't really care.

The stock AFM/DoD valve train may not like it as much.

Pfft I have just under 190k on my 5.3. She's been boosted 2x now, about to be a 3rd at 12-14psi

the older they are, the better they take boost IMO. Have a good PCV system and let her eat

The 140k mile 4.8 I just pulled out had been boosted for 25k at 16PSI. I sorta regret pulling it out because it made awesome oil pressure and upon tearing it apart the thing was minty clean still! Good fuel, good oil and a proper tune are the key.

I'd slap a little turbo cam and good valve train in that 5.3 and let it eat!

My 2001 has 270,000 on it, 150,000 of those with a supercharger. I`m about to go turbo, I say go for it.

are you guys doing any other valvetrain work besides cam/springs to these older motors? I had a 7875 turbo/5.3/4l80 RCSB with about 150k on it and when I did cam/springs in it, it seemed like the valve stem seals instantly started to leak oil down into the chamber when I put the cam in. In retrospect I should have done stem seals at the same time but hadn't really heard of anyone having that issue before.

I did stem seals when I did springs. Its kinda the same logic of doing the rear main when doing a clutch.

Whether its leaking or not, its better to do it
