408 or turbo 5.3?

turbo, turbo, turbo, turbo.....
there will be absolutly no comparison in mileage or power, the turbo will kill an NA 408. a stock 5.3 with a turbo will likly get better than stock mileage when you are not beating on it.
as far as daily driver. the 5.3 will drive exactly like stock till you mash the pedal.

For the first time since my Turbo, I went about 100 miles on the freeway and the other, say, 200 miles city. Normally I'm 80-90% city. I averaged 16mpg this tank, probably getting on it 10 times or so. I would imagine if I drove it "normal" I would have been around 18-19mph. This is the first tank I've ever had over 13mpg.

Althought I like to see what I can do n/a first I would have to agree with Parish but the only reason is you are looking for fuel mileage. If I was to guess with a 5.3 if you do all the tricks and get it tuned right it could run in the 10.xx i'm sure.

thanks guys, i should have known what the answer would be.
i've been looking at the livernois kit. would a 2600 stall be enough, it's not going to be a track truck it will see 95% of it's time on the street. i do some towing also.

2600 stall is perfect if they can hit that number. turbo cars are hard to build a stall for. they have normal tq before the turbo spools and then all of the sudden have a pile of tq, geting the conveter loose enough to let it get up in the rpms so it can spool but tight enough that it doesn't blow right thru the peak tq once the boost come on is a tricky thing to hit(so i am told)
another thing is you dont really want to be towing under much boost. i would spring it way down to 5psi or less when towing. then use a boost controler to turn it up when not towing.

you will want to talk to whoever you have build your converter, an off the shelf 2600 converter is desigend to stall to 2600 with a stock motor. on a turbo aplication it may stall to 4000rpm wich is above your peek tq rpm. you will also want to program your transmision line presure to ramp up much sooner. with a turbo you can see a lot of tq at only 1/2 throttle especialy when loaded with something like a trailer.
