Default Boost dropping off

Went to the dyno this morning and just trying to dial in the Boost Leash that I've had. Pulled three times with varying the gate pressure to find as the gate pressure went up the initial boost level did too but still dropped off to around 16psi. So start was 21psi and ended around 16psi. After that something else happened and the boost went even lower. I have no clue what the problem is and this seems to have been the issue I had with the eboost street also. So really I've gained nothing with this controller. I may have a problem with the oil seal in the turbo now too as I see it puffs some blue smoke into the boost and on start up. On the gate spring alone it will do 10psi or did before. Any ideas?

Its because of the way dynos act versus driving on the street. I bet your boost stays pretty steady on the street, right?

Problem is on the dyno the engine accelerates too fast. You basically want the turbo to outrun the engine slightly.

To fix this you would need some sort of closed loop boost control...I think the AMS1000 has something similar. I know my eboost street has a "boost compensation" feature that should fix this, but it would have to be dialed in on the dyno and would result in too much boost on the street.

Simple answer is there are ways to fix it, but it takes time and effort. If it performs like you want on the street I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Ok I'll have to try it out on the street again. What about the oil seal? I was running no restrictor without any problems but I'm guessing it's a problem now. Once the seal leaks there's no fixing it?

Can't help on that one...you shouldnt need a restrictor as long as your drain is adequate.

My drain has been fine to this point. It's got a lot of shaft play in my opinion. I think it's ****.....
Not too many miles on this turbo. What causes the failures?

After watching a couple of videos my shaft play might be acceptable.

You cant really tell with a journal turbo without pressurized oil running to it. The shaft floats in the bearing when its spinning so the play isnt as much as it looks like.

Well that's good to know it's not shot. I found the hoses down to the wastegate are melted. Had heat sleeve on the first foot but where it's touching the trans fill tube it's melted shut. Also the plastic hoses are
collapsed inside the push lock fittings. I'm guessing it's too hot for this setup???

Yea I wouldnt use plastic. Rubber will get soft but will tolerate higher temps than plastic. Best is obviously metal tube or metal hose.

You are right! Found out too that my tune is really rich too. I really need to have someone come here and do it or take it somewhere.
