Default Blowers with cog belts on the back

What size (pitch and width) belt do they use? I was looking at pulleys and belts at Grainger, and they rate a 1" wide belt with 3/8" pitch cogs at 4 horsepower.

What does that hp rating of 4 mean? Does that mean the cog belt takes 4hp to turn?

Thanks

That means it is designed to endure a 4 HP load. It is capable of turning something that takes 4 horsepower to turn, for a period of time that would give reasonable belt life. It does not mean that it would snap if you put 5 HP of drag on it, just that it would have a life span that the belt manufacturer would not want associated with their reputation.

That is why I would like to know what size belts are on these blowers, because of the supposed 50 to 80 horsepower it takes to turn one.

magnuson themselves say a 1900 could take up to 100 hp to drive at 18 psi check out the tables here https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...ance-maps.html with that said all superchargers require a good amount of horsepower to spin them at higher boost levels. you may have to go elsewhere besides grainger. common applications for a 1" wide belt in industry would not demand the transfer of power we are looking at. id go straight to gates if i were you as im sure they have backed belts to hold this kind of power and not shred.
