Behold the 383 shortblock
#51
I guess I'll need to measure the driveshaft once the swap is done.
I got my engine covers all cleaned up and ready for paint. I find that using a file for the rough stuff, then a sponge sanding block with dishsoap works really well. I finish with a milder Scotchbrite pad and more soap. Now I need some nice, mild weather for painting.

I also did some measuring today. My lifter cups are .021 shallower than the old ones. With the heads having been milled .012, the deck surfaced .003 and the new gaskets I ordered being .011 thinner I come up with a difference of .047". I think I'd better start looking for shorter pushrods... I hate buying this stuff twice!
Edit: Manley 7.200 pushrods ordered.

Well I got the painting done this week. What color? Why, Pioneer chainsaw yellow of course. I shot the aluminum with a thin coat of zinc chromate and then two coats of paint. I did the pan today in a semi-gloss black. All paint is industrial Sherwin-Williams Genesis paint. I've used it on small engines and it sticks like crazy, is impermeable to anything and is diamond-tough. i know some of you guys won't like the color but I think it looks kinda cool. It'll look great with my chrome blower. I got my ARP studs in and pump mounted. Also put new seals in the covers. I'm waiting for a Mast windage tray to arrive.

I'll do a mockup with heads and take some more pics tomorrow if I don't have to work.

Here's another update. I did a little mockup today to see how it would all look. There are no valves in it since I'll need the springs, locks, retainers and rockers from my current setup when I do the swap. Otherwise, I could pretty much complete the longblock minus the windage tray which I'm waiting for. It's getting close...

I got my 7.200 pushrods in today.

The pushrods are a funny length beacause I'll be using them with these:

And of course, this:
