I've found most of what I needed to know off of google, but one last question would anyone know if I needed to shorten the drive shaft when I swap transmissions? Because I plan on picking up the 4l80e transmission from a local place soon and if I need it cut I'll have to plan ahead for this and budget it.

The 80 is about 2.5" longer IIRC so, yes, you will need to shorten the rear driveshaft and buy a longer front.

80e moves everything in a 4wd back 1 11/16"...
