Default Anybody move the intercooler tank to inside the bed??

Its been a long winter and I've been a little bored, so I thought instead of having the MP112 intercooler tank mounted under the hood where its hot, I moved it to the passenger rear side of the box.

I run the truck in the garage for about 20 min to get the engine nice and hot and I felt the intercooler tank and it was still ICE cold.

The benifits of moving the tank I THINK are..................

Tank is not sitting in the hot engine bay.

Added about a extra gallon of coolant with running 2- 3/4" lines from the rear to the front of the truck.

Much more surface area to keep things cool.

Anybody think it was worth the work or was I just that bored??

Define "ice cold". Also, I see you're in Canada, and it's Febuary. What were the ambient temps?

If I did that mod, I'd use a really big tank that could hold alot of ice.

Its warm enough to make you sweat in the garage.

I have the ability to put a 20 gallon tank back there if I want to.

The mod only cost $100

If you have datalogging abilities, just see how your IAT's act now, compared to before the mod. I know some of the Cobra/Lightning guys mount large icebox's in the trunk/bed, and it works for them. It should work for you too.

I am brewing up a little something for the cooling system of my 112. If it works like I think it will, it will bring the temps way down. I will be running a 10% overdrive crank pulley, and a 2.6 pulley on the snout. I have my intercooler behind my front bumper, and the new one is 22"X11"x4" thick. It should cool a little better I should have some pics soon.

One thing to remember guys is you can have as big a tank and as cold of coolant as you want, but the HEX in the intake manifold is only so big, thats the biggest problem.

Im very curious to see results guys, i really do hope it helps in the qtr.

Im just using the small plastic tank that came with my kit, i have a nice large alum one that i can fit water bottles in, just havent swapped it yet as my small one works fine.

Also water wetter and distilled water is a guaranteed 10* drop in IAT's.

That's the other thing I am working on. The original cooler under the supercharger is 6 1/8"x9"x2 1/4". If all goes right the one I'm putting in will be 8 3/4"x16"x3", but I have to make the whole upper intake to do it. If it looks like it will all work properly I will be posting pics of the progress.

Here is what the original heat exchanger looks like setting on top of the lower intake. For those of you that are smart enough to not take things apart.
