Default Another "Turbo Build Check List" Thread

So tear town officially begins this weekend. The truck is a 2008 crew cab LTZ, 5.3/4L60 2wd, currently stock with the exception of a 3" MBRP catback. I've been hanging onto the majority of this for a while and finally decided to bite the bullet and order the rest to dig in.

I'm just wanting a few more sets of eyes looking over what I have to see if I may be missing something. The only thing I'm up in the air with at the moment is a boost controller. I'm not real sure what most guys are using? I don't see why a trustly old manual boost controller wouldn't suffice. Anyway, onto the build list.

-KB Racing Hotpipe kit - T4 with 3" Downpipe. This was also made with a v-band flange to accommodate for my wastegate
-VS Racing Billet 7875 Turbo Kit - Includes Turbo Blanket, 50mm BOV and 44mm Wastegate
-VS Racing FMIC Kit (31x12x3) with piping, couplers, etc.
-VS Racing Oil Kit (Feed and Return)
-Walbro 450 pump kit
-Siemens Deka 80lb Injectors
-Circle D 3200 Converter *with Upgraded Billet front cover - for my *gasp* 4L60 (I know)
-Elgin 1840P Cam AKA Sloppy Stage 2 - 228/230 - .585/.585 112LSA
-PAC 1218 Springs
-BTR DOD Delete Kit - LS7 lifters w/trays, valley cover, LS9 head gaskets, head bolts, header gaskets
-AEM Failsafe - Boost gauge/Wideband in one

I think that's pretty much everything. I have a 3" Loudvalve I'm going to throw on the end of the downpipe, then connect that all to the 3" MBRP catback that I currently have. I'm not chasing any goals, just going to set this up on 93 pump and see what it makes safely and leave it at that just to have a fun daily. I dont see why 550ish isn't out of the question, but again I'm not hung up on any numbers.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I kinda wish people would stop buying 80lb/hr deka injectors, there are so many other injectors out there with proven data that works without a hitch. Yes they cost more but they are better for a reason.

Don't forget about a 3 bar MAP sensor. Most buy a ZR1/ZL1 map sensor, they are like 30-40 bucks. You'll need to swap two pins on the harness connector being that it's a 2008 truck. 2011/12+ trucks are plug and play.

Ah, forgot about the MAP. Thanks.

And whats the issue with the Dekas if countless people run them with no issues? It came as a bundle. I considered ditching them but I haven't really read anything bad other than people bashing them because they're inexpensive.

It's mainly the data. Yeah tons of people use them but it's likely many never have the right data for tuning because those injectors come with no data. You have to find it and hope whatever you find is correct. If you search hard enough you'd find what you want but lots of places or people that tune won't have it and end up tuning around it instead.

More name brand injectors are all flow tested, flow matched and have data sheets with plug and play numbers with no hassles whatsoever.

Really can't tell you how many times I've seen tunes with deka 60's or 80's with nothing but the flow rate changed for the injector size. No offset changes, no min pulse width or short pulse adder etc etc etc.

Understandable. I'll run it by my tuner and see if he's messed with them before or would rather me ditch them. Thanks for the feedback.

May go with some FIC 775cc.

What about a trunion upgrade? Seems hit and miss. It's my daily so I'm not going to be revving it to the sky.

Any of the trunion bushing kits will be a smart move.

Well if this is a build thread I’ll be following closely. I have the same year truck and ltz aluminum lc9 no vvt 5.3 60e combo and I’m going turbo. Thinking about deleting the dod but not sure yet since my lifters haven’t failed and they can take some abuse believe it or not. Rather stay out of the engine for now on low boost. Going FLT for trans. What you doing for trans?

Sure I'll keep this thread updated. I have the iron block LY5. As for the trans, I'm just going to ride this one out for now. I also have a 50k mile backup I snagged for 300 bucks I can use. Once it goes in I'll probably start gathering 4l80 swap parts. I forgot to mention I do have a B&M cooler new in box thats been sitting here for years, I'll probably throw that on as well.

That poor poor little 60e
It is going to hate life even more after you boost it.

What about some ID1000’s or 750’s ?? They are a great injector with proven data.
