There is TON's of STS type info in the archives of this forum. That was the first type turbo setup I had on my truck before I built my first front mount.
You will still need a return oil pump though, as gravity drain wont be enough even from bed height when you are acceleration and it will backup and push past the turbo seals.
Wrapping the pipes from the manifolds to the turbo in a rear mount situation is a MUST for helping spool, night and day kinda difference. I messed with this for 2 years back in the day.

Hello everyone. I have been lurking for years and am finally ready to start my car project. The platform is a 2002 silverado rcsb 5.3 l59 base model 2wd 85k miles. The plan is to keep it daily drivable with an end goal of 600rwhp. The first step will be turboing the stock 5.3 to whatever the stock 4l60e (400hp?) can handle. Then after building a 4l80e and upgrading the rear end, crank up the hp. This will be done in my garage with the help of a few friends.
The plan is to bed mount turbo an ebay gt45
The mindset behind a bed mount turbo for me is this:
-Cost savings by using stock configured exhaust
-Retention of all factory parts under hood
-No melted plug wires, etc.
-All the benefits of an STS style turbo setup but with the turbo protected from the elements
-Turbo upgrades in the future will require no hot side modifications.
-And last of all I think it will be unique.
-I am not too worried about lag because I will be running an auto and can load the torque converter
I am fixing to order a Stigan gt45 from amazon. Anyone used this brand gt45 before?

I payed $250 for mine from a company called stigan on amazon. They seem to make a lot of factory replacement turbos and all the reviews were pretty good on them. Ill let you know how it looks when I get it.

Never the less, If I need one, I'll get one when the time comes.

Bed mount. Same height but your hose now is gonna be 6-8 feet long.
And is not going straight down. It's in an ugly angle.

Self contained.
Would need an oil pump that pushes 20-40psi.
Oil tank with fill neck and venting
Oil cooler. Cooler needs to in air flow or have a fan blowing on it.
All that keeps adding to to ticket.
