My box is open with a little scoop on the bottom. The fender Liner and front bumper/valence do a good job of keeping crap out.

I made a quickie 3 sided airbox that extended to the grill on the engine side. The top and back boxed it in. I then used 1/8" ABS as isolator plates on the inside. It dropped my engine temps in the midwest heat by 15+ degreees in the summer. The track temps were evn better. Best part it took me 30 minutes and a 6 pack and I can swap between K&N and Spectre filters. If you have a quick template, hell churn them out as an option.

Oh there will be new times this season no doubt. The question is just how much time will I drop from this year to next year! As soon as I get the power steering problem in my S10 figured out, the trans and rear end will get done in my Silverado. Once that stuff gets done its turbooo timeee!!!

To me? There are 2 folds in the side and rear panels helping to divert air and seperate airflow. The bottom is wide open from the ground to the grill in my air box

I would highly recommend a bottom on the box I had my last air box on my 5.3 open and thats why it was the last box on that motor. Hit a water puddle sucked up water and bend a rod. So like I said i highly recommend a bottom on them.
