adding boost at over 100k miles
#22
I boosted my 8.1L at 96,xxx and did great. I took it off for a while, but is going back on soon, and i got about 107,xxx. And i have the STS and i hunt, fish, offroad. Only thing i say is if you run an A/A intercooler, DO NOT mount it on the bottom of the radiator support, I crushed mine on a rock
Next time its going in front of the radiator

My 2000 Z71 5.3 has 181,000 on the clock, Runs DAMN strong, no oil use/smoke.
These motors run for a LONG time, LS series are the best.
There is a 5.3 silverado on thedieselplace.com that has 577,000 on it , original 5.3, never been cracked open, but has had a few trannys.
Ive already ordered a Cam/springs/Ect. to do a cam swap,
And am going to add a KB front mount turbo soon.
If/When she goes, i'll buy another short block for 500$ and have some more fun!

A blower would be the more reasonable choice over a rear-mounted turbo if you off-road alot, simply because you don't have to worry about pulling an oil line loose or dragging the turbo on something. But, you could still hunt and off-road with a rear-mounted setup fine, just be a little more selective of which mud holes you drop off in. You may have to walk a little further to the tree stand lol

Thanks guys for all the responses guys! I think an mp112 is the route im going to go. It isnt like im going to run out and buy one tomarrow however I will be watching the for sale adds on the site! My reasoning for the mp112 is from my research on the site a turbo is kind of an ongoing process with tuning and tinkering... From what ive seen the maggie is kind of bolt it on get a tune and let er rip! hahaha... Does this seem about right to you guys?

Also the only tuning shop I've found around me is in Northwood,ND which isnt exactly down the street from me, and there a diesel place.. There shop is supposed to be the hot **** when it comes to diesel however I wouldnt think tuning a diesel engine would be anything like tuning a gasser...
