Default 6.0 364 vs 403/408 Stroker

Hello Everyone,

I have a 2007.5 (nnbs) Chevy Silverado 5.3 with 225,000 miles. I am currently working on putting a 4l80e in it with trans go shift kit, deep pan, hardened shafts, bigger cooler, etc.

My questions is what engine should I pair it up? I can't deicide if I go 6.0 361 or stroker 403/408. It would be N/A e85 to start off with. I would like 500whp but bare minimum 400whp. It is my second vehicle other than a daily so I would like it to be reliable. Later down the road, when the time is right and I have another truck. I'd like to turbo it with like s475 or s480 and make a decently reliable 800whp on low boost.

Thanks

Making a stroker out of a stock block will makes lots of power but how long it will last is another thing. The pistons on a stroker will come out of the bore more than normal and wear the engine and pistons. The more power the engine is making the more it will wear as well. If you ask a lot of people that make lots of power and want little to no maintenance on the engine, they wouldn't put in a stroker using the stock block.

In the end I honestly think you'd be happy with 600-650hp or even less. Anything over 500hp is just going to lay rubber, melt tires and do rolling burnouts from a 30-40mph roll.

Strokers make power. If you build one use a gen 4 6.0. I have been told they have a deeper cylinder skirt.

Take the stock 5.3 and re-gap the rings for boost. Add ARP rod bolts while you're in there. Have the stock heads re-freshened, CNC ported add dual springs, and assemble with ARP heads studs and MLS gaskets. Add a Summit 8720R1 camshaft. Mount the S480 with the biggest intercooler you can fit. Bolt it to the 4L80E with a 3k stall and 4.10 gears. Finish it off with a 4" exhaust and straight through muffler. Tune it for E85 and let it eat.

If it were me... I'd do a 9.5-10CR 365ci (4.005" bore) with good rods and stock crank. With whatever heads you want.

4L80E

S480/96

Contact JFR (Stock4.8 on here) for a camshaft.

Throw it all together and go have fun

it is, but on the 6.0 I just built,I kept the stock stroke for reliability in my daily driver over getting a 4” crank. If a 3.9” stroke was readily available I would have done that on my new gen4 6.0 block to avoid the issues with the pistons rocking in the bore

ive had my 6.3 stroker 5 years with no issues. Three of those were a daily at 10 psi.
