He's talking about removing his 4L70 and replacing it with a 6L80E that he already has, if I read the OP correctly.

That's debatable. I spoke to the tech dept of two different ring manufacturers, and was told otherwise. There's alot more to ring gap factor than saying "stock is just fine". IMO, if the engine's gonna be on a stand, that's the time to take it apart & measure all of the clearances. You'll find that the factory tolerances very quite a bit. When I re-gapped rings on Daniel's 10K mile 5.3, some of them were tight, others had more gap. I found the same thing on my 80K junkyard 5.3.

You see thats why I honestly was leaning towards putting in the 5.3 if it would meet my goals of 500-600whp on 93 octane. I thought that I can do everything inc ring gap while the engine is on a stand. That way I will have a complete engine ready to drop in and minimize my down time. Its def. easier doing all the above on a stand then doing the 6.0 while still in the truck and then I can't do the ring gaps on the 6.0. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions..........

Just give yourself the extra time, and pull the 6.0 out & go through it. It could be done in a weekend if you have someone to help you. Add a 3rd day to install the turbo kit, and then it needs tuned.

500 to 600 is a big swing.
Exp. 500 hp can gobwith thevsmaller injectors.
600 u will need some 60's.

I would lean towards the higher power level as the goal.
The 6.0L can get you their. Thev5.3 can as well you just have to push it harder.
As far as turbo. Go with the 76 .96.
Housings are cheap. You could get the .81 or 1.???
And see how your combo likes the different housings.
The .96 is a good all around housing.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

You know if no one ends up buying my 5.3 LC9 by this weekend then I think I'm just going to build that and keep my complete stock drivetrain as a spare. I think 550ish rwhp is probably the limit of my stock fuel pump anyway. It doesnt seem like anyone has found a way to incorporate an aftermarket fuel pump into a stock nnbs fuel pump bucket. So I think that the 5.3 should get me to my goal and if I ever want to turn up the boost, then I'll add race fuel or Meth or both.

You'll definitely reach your goal with a 5.3. I am at 501 rwhp with meth disconnected on a 4.8 running 10.0 fat.

The 5.3 option is sounding better and better everyday. Maybe I'll treat myself on father's day and start building it if no one ends up buying it.

in my opinion it would be stupid to pull the 6.0 and swap with the 5.3. for one 6.0 takes on boost better second thats a lot for work to make less power with the 5.3 if i were you i would leave the 6.0 tel it blows cuz it pry will sometime then swap the 6.2
