Default 4x4 and boosted... what have you broke?

Hey guys im looking to what those of you that are boosted 4x4's have broke as far as drivetrain???

Hows the transfer case hold up?

I have an 05 CCSB 2500HD 6.0 4l80E 4x4 stock.... Wanting to do a DIY front mount like i did on my Trans AM...

Just curious how the drivetrains hold up in these things?

I wanna make in the 600hp range, nothing crazy because i dont want to be fixing it all the time...

Thanks in advance for any info advice guys!!

Upgrade the g80 if you still have one. The rest will most likely hold up just fine.

Aklowriderz71 has it. You might need some trans upgrades but I would wait till it dies.

ya the 4l80e is a pretty stout trans, but im sure it wont take the abuse forever...

I have rebuilt a couple 4l60e transmissions with great luck so when the time comes ill probably just rebuild the 4l80e myself with some minor upgrades...

My transfer case held up to an 11.6@115, and about 20 trips down the track so far, and a bunch runs on the street also. Quite a few other have gone faster than me with no problems, but your truck is a good bit heavier, so who knows until you try it.

I've seen AWD SSS's do donuts and awd burnouts in 11-12 second trucks with no problems.

Get a god trans cooler and shift kit to buy time. Pull the G80 and put in a Tru Trac.

I've never hurt my transfer-case in 10 years, tie-rods or anything suspension related, but I did explode the G80.

That is with a AWD transfer-case and I believe being direct linked through a true 4WD case may be a little harder on things, so upgrading components like the tie-rods and sleeves, as well as the idler arm support bracket and so on with parts from someone like Cognito may not be a bad idea. I know the people into sled pulling mangle the puny factory tie-rods and CV’s doing what they do, and while I’ve never heard of people doing much damage launching in 4WD, it never hurts to over build. There are upgraded chains (wider) available for most of the transfer-cases and if your truck has a lot of miles on it, it may not be a bad idea to change out the chain and oil pump clips in the case anyway to kill two birds with one stone. Beings you have a 2500, you should have the 9.25” IFS front differential, to which unlike most of us, you can add a locker such as a e-locker or air-locker to the front end, which really should help things in the launching department applying a more even load. Even having a G80 in the rear isn’t so bad in your case as it is with the rest of us having a 10-bolt. You’ve got some of the best factory components; it’s just your also saddled with a ton of extra weight.
