Default 454 SS Single Turbo build

How's it goin, my name is Trey and this is my build. Some of you guys may know me from GMT400.com or GMFS as 454SSGuy, this is the same build. The idea behind the truck is a DD/AutoX toy. Shooting for 650-750 RWHP and 20 MPG's HWY.

Link to build thread, just pics.
454SSguy buid thread

So the build so far is..

Engine
Stock Rotating Assembly (55k miles) around 8.0:1 CR
Heads - Procomp Aluminum Oval port heads
Cam - HR Duration @ .050 218/224//Lift .561/.566//LSA 114
Intake- Aluminum TBI (will be going to single plane setup)
Fuel - Aero A750 Pump, sumped 20Gal Cell, Aero 13301 Reg with TBI

Trans
Trans - Level II T-56 from Tick Performance

Suspension
Coilovers front and back
sway bar on rear (front one soon)
4 Link with chassis mounted Watts linkage

Wheels & tires

Cragar 8 hole in Black
Fronts 17x8 with 275/50R17
Rear 17x11.5 with 345/40R17

The turbo build plans

Turbo
Planned on going with a Single 76mm with a .96 AR. I know it's small but it should spool fast and I'm not going crazy.

Manifolds
I was thinking either running some flipped stock manifolds or going with turbo headers from OBX (look ok and might save me some hassle).

Hot side Piping
I was thinking smaller is better, maybe 2 1/4 or even 2". I'm really not sure on this.

Intercooler
Will run a front mount intercooler, not sure what size yet, I've got TONS of room. I will need to upgrade the fans for sure, since they already struggle.

More Cooling
I was thinking of running some 05+fans.

So now my questions

Wastegate - How many, and what size, and where to put it?

Boost controler- I think a manual will work fine, but where to get one and what to get?

BOV - necessary? If so where to get one?

Exhaust - I currently run dual 2 1/2 dumped infront of each tire, is this enough or should I go to a single 4"?

Turbo Cooiling - Will I need a seperate oil pump to feed the turbo, can i run it's on oil cooler (should I?).

Here's a pic just for fun.

Am I to understand that you are going to use the stock TBI and Injectors? For the kind of power you want to make, you WILL need to look at a port fuel set up. The two 90# injectors you have will not give you the fuel you need. Also, you will probably run into tuning problems with your ECM as it will now have to see boost. At the very least, go to dynamic-efi.com and look at the ECM mods they have available. That can set you up with a modded factory ECM that will work with port fuel and boost.

LOL I already have an EBL from dynamic EFI, guess I coulda put that in the first post. I plan on running all the injectors will safely feed, wanna keep the DC around 85-90%max. Im sure a new intake and MPFI is in the future though.

Your turbo will be a choke point depending on which 76mm you use.
And then what final rpm do you want to spin it up.

8.0:1 compression and 20mpg ain't gonna happen... I know youve got more cubes but you will be dealing with a restricted exhaust and soggy CR, that engine is not going to be efficient at all IMO.

Bump it up into the 9's or as much as 10.0 for compression and look at 81-83mm turbos. You'll have a lot easier chance reaching your goals...

I kinda figured fou to small would be better than too big. Hp goal is around 700 but I'm only going to doin the motor to about 5200 rpms.

Compression is stayin low till I do a rotating assembly. The. I'll probably go to 496 at 10:1 or so. I wanna stay kinda low boost to keep this motor alive for a year or two.

Vary nice truck man. First of all the turbo.. 76 is fine but .96ar is not, check out the borg Warner budget turbos. Waist gate eaither a 60mm or twin 38s. bov yes, any 60mm will be fine. A single 3.5 exhaust would be the best, but your duel 2.5s will work for 600rw, if advise bigger for 750

also keep in mind a higher compression engine will spool the turbo alot quicker, try to get 9.5 cr then a larger turbo. You want atleast a 80mm ex wheel on there with that big block

Gotcha, I think the exhaust will get sold with the headers anyway. It's a nice setup but it would be too hard to make work with he new setup.

So I should be lookin for a bigger a/r with a 76? so something around 1.02 to 1.10 a/r with a 76? Or should I just step up to an 83-85? That's good info on the wg and bov, thanks.

Borg Warner turbos? Are you talking about the s400, s475, s490 ect ect ?

Any advise on the oil pump.

A T6 Borg Warner S475 with a 1.10 a/r and 83mm turbine would be a good turbo for that setup. Even the bigger 1.32 a/r 96mm turbine would do well. And keep that compression up to at least 9-9.5 to 1
