I need some drill bit help. I need a 3/16"X6" long drill bit that will cut into the forged crank so I can pin it. The bit supplied in my IW crank pin kit...well my crank looks at it and goes
I got about an 1/16" into the crank before it dulled out. Bought another yesterday and got another 1/16".
What's the hardest bit I can get to drill this thing? I will have to order online. Already checked all both places in town...
"3/16 DRILL SOLID CARBIDE 6 3/4 LONG .187 DIA TITANIUM NITRIDE COATED" on eBay for $16 shipped...maybe?

dont use solid carbide. it will most likely break because you are drilling by hand. break carbide in there and your F'ed because you would pretty much have to EDM drill it out. I can look and see if i have some at work i could send you if you want. just give me a few bucks to ship if thats the case. your best bet would be a guhring brand HSCO drill they get punished plenty in our shop. text me tomorrow if your interested and ill see what i got 6094399205

btw im not sure of your drilling technique but if your going all out with the drill thats most likely your problem. id go slow, a couple hundred rpm with a lot of pressure to try to pull a nice chip off of there. if the chip load is not high enough you will rub, heat the part, work harden it, and melt your drill.

Mine does. I thought they all did. My last base did too. They make aircraft parts. Some things are easier/cheaper to build than buy from Boeing etc..

My base has a fuggin CNC machine. If I knew the guys a lil better and had the program I could do my own heads and make custom rims lol...
